Grok the Caveman Chronicles of a Modern Caveman

Vegan Experiment Update

So what’s this caveman’s take on veganism?

Highlights:

  1. Stressed out about getting enough protein
  2. Good exercise recovery
  3. Fruitarian is not for me
  4. This experiment will change my food pyramid. At least while I have training ramped up

I’m excited about being plant based but throwing fish oil back in.
Of course I’m still excited about meat too ;)

I will be dialing back meat consumption after I’m finished with my vegan experiment. This isn’t a bad thing, as it will be very easy for me totally ditch grocery store meats and only drop in the highest quality stuff that I can hunt or already have hunted.

I still might try fruitarian one day. I’d like to give Dr. Doug Graham’s 811 diet aka 30BananasADay a try just to say I did it.

The diet you’ll be doing after your experiment almost sounds like The Warrior Diet if you just stuck to fruits & veggies during the day.

@Chris I’ve heard about that banana diet. I love bananas, but I’m not really sure what it would accomplish other than draining my wallet.

I’ve done lots of warrior diet. 20-24 hours 1 meal is my MO. Keeps my calorie intake off the moon. Not really something I’m excited about doing when I’m endurance training 12-30 hours a week though.

Was chatting about almond milk earlier today. Any chance that making some for yourself would help with your protein concerns?

    @Adam,

Sounds delicious, but trying to keep the nuts as limited as possible. I’ve been going with macadamia & walnuts because the fatty acid ratios are better. Bad enough that the O-3 is ALA. Pumpkin seeds have plenty of O-6, but also the protein I want to make sure I have. As long as the inflammation in my joints is down I’m not too worried.

Honestly, I’m amazed at how well my joints are doing despite being off the fish oils. They’re better than ever. Set a new record on my short bike loop today on legs I beat on all weekend. This experience has been a little humbling in that regard. It’s hard to admit.

I do feel like I might be losing a bit of muscle in my upper body, but I’m losing a lot of fat too. Might all be an illusion. I can pack that muscle back on if I need it pretty easily.

That’s good news about the joints. Lots of reps or endurance running, I always feel in my big joints (left knee or shoulder) first. Appreciate the admission – no use being doctrinaire, while engaging in self-experimentation.
