Grok the Caveman Chronicles of a Modern Caveman

Vegan Century Ride

8 hours 11 minutes. 102 miles. 7,053 feet of climbing. Rain, snow, freezing cold, gnarly wind. No gloves or decent gear to speak of. Still vegan. Feel awesome. My lunch picnic was at Hoffstadt Bluffs.

Watch the videos. 18 minutes I think? Somewhat entertaining. Some profanity. Keep your finger close to the volume button. Some of the wind scenes are loud. Also on Vimeo.

Here are some shots from the ride and food :)

Sounds like a lot of fun! I would LOVE to go on a bike ride like this! Before I went primal I had zero interest…

The video was only 4.5 minutes… do you have the rest?

The videos should repeat. If they dont, try advancing though them with the >| next to the play button. I’ll make a graphic too.

You can also watch them on vimeo if you click that link above.

RE: Last video…. My tire was completely flat this morning. I wasn’t imagine it being low ;)

I can see being a Dr. Fuhrman-type nutritarian as he has you eat tons of non-starchy vegetables and I don’t think he is opposed to including animal products in the diet he just doesn’t like it. He’s also not against adding fat (though he is against adding animal fat.

I suppose as an endurance athlete it’s nice to feel light and energetic after eating so I could see cycling (pun not intended)a week of heavy meat and fat eating with maybe 3 weeks of heavy vegetable eating.

Another thing Dr Fuhrman advocates that I’m a fan of is the blended salad, making a salad in a blender, so it increases the nutrients in leafy greens like lettuce. You can find some of his recipes on the web like putting a banana, avocado, baby lettuce, spinach, & tomato in a blender & other variations.

@thiana The nuts are caloric dense, and this is not the only thing I ate. I had lots of food.

Yes, crashes on bikes are not so fun. I’ve literally probably had 1,000 of them on motorcycles, so I know what they are all about. The spooky part is… I wear more protection on the motorcycle & they still are not a pleasant experience. I wear a good helmet, but that can’t protect from getting your face, skin & arms ripped off.

@Chris Thanks. I’m going to have to look him up. My recovery has been great, so during training I’m probably going to go lighter on the meat. I’m all about the Vita-mix. Sometimes I use it 3 times a day :)
