Not So 6 Week Cure… Week 7 update

6 Week Cure Week 8

Disclaimer: I do not have a middle-aged middle. Heck, I’m not even middle aged! I’m using the 6 Week Cure as a bodybuilding diet. If you wan’t to try the diet (which I recommend) you do not have to try and sustain my caloric intake numbers to have great results! This is NOT part of Dr. Eades protocol outlined in the book. These numbers are my modifications to continue propelling me into single digit bodyfat levels.

7 Weeks in the bag! Wow, that was fast!

Stepped up the weeks plan. It was hardly based on anything in The 6 Week Cure. About the only resemblance to the original protocol is the fact that I’m consuming whey protein. LOL

I broke a 36 hour water fast (from Saturday night to Monday morning) and logged 5,000 calories worth of food for the day. I then proceeded to do a protein sparing fast for the next 5 days (no food).

I generally consumed 2 scoops of protein a day and a few tablespoons of Cod Liver Oil and Coconut Oil. I finally got some Ketostixs to turn very light purple by dosing some coconut oil. That was exciting for me. Those dang things never change for me in 15 seconds!

I believe the calorie average for the week was about 1,000. My average for the past month is 1,200-ish, so that puts me at about 55% below my Fitday BMR! A diet with a 55% calorie reduction is a gnarly diet! I’m in no way suggesting that this heavy of a calorie deficit is healthy or you should try it. It’s a personal choice I’m making… not suggesting.

I ended the week with another bang this afternoon. I stuffed in 4,500 calories of Primal food for a re-feed. The coming meat week will be another low one, with the exception of probably Thursday. I’m trying to be realistic.

I’m entering the data into FitDay every day, but not counting calories ahead of time. I only enter after I’m FINISHED EATING for the day. I hate counting calories and I don’t want to do it.

So what’s happened in 7 weeks while on “The Sorta Cure”?

I’m down 15 full pounds! I’m now showing a 4-pack on some days, my belts are all worthless… and the too-tight jeans I bought a little while ago are now baggy. I dropped a full 3 pounds last week. The fat is frying off my legs! I was still very strong or stronger during the little resistance training sessions I did. Other than that I sat all week long in front of the computer doing work. There is still a lot of work to be done to reach my goals!

Weeks 1 & 2 both had 3# loss averages

Weeks 3 & 4 both had 2# loss averages

Week 5 down to 1# loss average

Week 6 over 2# loss average

Week 7 up to 3# loss average

Week 8’s Plan – Meat week

Keeping it simple:

  • Water fasting until late Monday night around 9pm.
  • Very small portions of elk meat & oils once or twice a day Tuesday/Wednesday.
  • Wednesday hunting season starts. Kill to Eat I guess ;)
  • Hoping to have a reasonably low-carb Thanksgiving at maybe 4,000 calories.
  • Water fast until Friday night. Small elk meat dinner
  • Very small portions of elk meat & oils once or twice a day Saturday/Sunday.

The plan is to have mashed potato alternatives (cauliflower & zucchini), possibly sprouts, dark meat turkey, and Kombucha for Thanksgiving. I’m going to bake a full on sugar & fake sugar free paleo pumpkin pie as a fall back in case things start to look like they might get ugly around dessert time.

We’ll see what the walking during hunting does for my fat loss this time. I dropped 7-8lbs during Kill to Eat.

You can Track my daily macro Intake on my Food Log Page for this diet.

Wow! An awesome journey and great job for blogging it all. It’s definitely interesting to read and inspirational to keep at something with so much energy for so long :)

Thanks. It’s great to read that.

I know many people think I’m crazy… but outside of the mainstream dieting world, this really is not as unhealthy/bad as a lot of other alternatives I could be using for similar results.

I said it 7 weeks ago, and I’ll say it again. THERE WILL BE NO MORE #FAILS. I’m sick of the whole diet debacle. I’m closing up this chapter of my life ASAP so I can move onto my bigger goals! :)

I’m an advocate for real food. I want to make this very clear!

    • I am not a paleo/primal eater for weight loss reasons!
    • Never have been. I started to because of my inflammatory conditions.
    • I continue to preach paleo/primal for it’s piles of health related benefits.
    • I am currently on a fat-loss diet!
    • Do Not confuse this with my paleo/primal lifestyle!
    • Real food is best, but at my level of bodyfat, Calories DO MATTER.
    • I’m looking at calories & carbs only.
    • Real meat (elk) = 432cal/54g protein.
    • My whey protein = 248cal/54g protein.
    • This means twice the protein or add cod liver oil for the same cals. This is why I do what I do.
    • I won’t argue real meat isn’t much more heathy than the processed powder.
    • If you have more than 15% or so bodyfat, you don’t need crazy reduction like mine!
    • Just eat whole-real-foods & obviously exercise some level of moderation while doing so ;)
    • Try the real 6 Week Cure protocol if you need extra help. It will work fantastic for you!

I just want to make this abundantly clear. Thank you for following my Journey!

What kind of whey do you use? Are they all created equal?

    • No they are not. Most have tons of additives, artificial sugars, chemicals, and flavors. I avoid any brands with soy like the plague that it is!
    • I always get “natural flavor” as this seems to have the least amount of extra added junk.
    • Not as much flavor, but who gives a crap. I’m not sipping it like coffee for flavor.
    • Since it’s all processed, look for the higher protein “isolate” or predigested “hydrolyzed” stuff.
    • My favorite commercial brands are: Biochem & Designer Whey.
    • Caprotein‘s Fermented Goat protein is cool, but a bit pricy. Contains casein A2 (good).
    • I use TrueProtein if I’m thinking ahead. Email me for a discount.

Hey Grok – Your tweaks and updates are really interesting! I’m impressed with your dedication and consistency – especially with such low calories. I can only imagine that you must be seeing huge changes. Thanks for posting your experience with this.

@Shelly – The key for me is getting enough sleep. If I get good sleep, the low-cals are easy to maintain. If I don’t, I fail like I did last night!

The good thing is… my fails are primal. Thanksgiving week is a tough week to be behind on sleep! ;)

    Update:
    Sunday :: Controlled binge

    Monday :: Fast. Very tired

    Tuesday Night — Wednesday
Basically an uncontrolled binge 100% primal.
Triggered by pie baking & the fact that I DID NOT sleep or even go to bed (Last binge 2mo/5days).

WednesDAY :: Controlled high-cal. Cleaning dairy out of fridge.

Thursday :: Thanksgiving. Have paleo squash pie & kefir ice cream ready for indulgence!

@JC – That will not be necessary buddy ;) I ended up eating enough for all the commenters the 26th & 27th!

I’m back on the wagon today, but will have to hold off weighing myself until Monday so I can purge the extra food and extra weight.

If I don’t show a gain, I’ll be happy. I’m not holding my breath for fear of turning blue ;)

    Update:

Gained 21lbs between Thanksgiving and Christmas. About two of those weeks I even dieted. I hate you ridiculous appetite! My entire 6 week cure loss completely blown + more!
