Mountaineering In Five Fingers
Spent the day hiking, scaling cliffs, walking through swamp, and engaging in combat with a jungle full of “Devils Club.”
Saw several heard of elk, two big straggler bulls, a deer bounding away, two porcupines, and two grouse. One of which I almost stepped on while walking through the bushes to take a dip in a lake.
The biting flies were off the hook! By far the worst I’ve ever encountered. My legs were covered in blood from the Devils club, and I was gushing stinky sweat from the 100° sun. I’m sure this didn’t help matters any.
My feet are a little raw after 6 hours or whatever in the hot rocks with the Vibram Five Fingers. Possibly partially from sand/pumice getting inside. Oh, I got chomped by a Fire Ant for the first time. Damn those little bastards pack quite a punch!

Wonderful, it is so beautiful, I love montains , that is where I feel happiest.
Drooling , thoes wild raspberries, are small but oh my,they explode in intense flavour , ….
Not a very nice sight your feet, it must hurt to hell, look after yourself.

Nice pics – are you wearing socks with the vibrams? How do you get your toes into the holes? Maybe you have socks with fingers too? Or perhaps you have cut the ends off?

@Methuselah – They are Injinji socks.
If you want to cover the tops of your feet (for matching clothes etc..) just cut the toes off regular socks to get the same “look.”
@phareon – Yep that’s the old girl. Click on my St. Helens tag or (Grok Hits The Back 40) link. You can see similar “Elevation 3800″ sign pics in different seasons.
