I will be trying to tweet this adventure. Save the #KilltoEat search hashtag and follow me along the way. Instantly see my realtime Tweets and Twitpics! I should be able to get txt messages out at least most of the time.
Objective:
To harvest one Blacktail Buck.
My plan is to harvest enough game this year that I will not have to buy any nasty meat from the store (unless desired). I eat a lot, so this requires a lot of meat.
Duration:
Sept. 26, 27, 28, 2009.
Motivation 1:
Potentially 72 hours (3 days) of tough cross-county hiking with no substantial food. I will be eating NO MEALS after the evening of Sept. 25th.
Motivation 2:
I want to have to buy another freezer because I have too much meat
Exceptions:
If I’m feeling a little weak, I will eat wild eatables. But only if I’m feeling weak. Grok would have eaten whatever he found, but Grok wasn’t on a ketogenic diet. Most of the berries are coming out of season by now, so unless I come across an apple tree, there’s not a whole lot of substance quickly accessible except clover. (Update: Boy was I wrong)
If I see other game. I may harvest it also. In that case I will eat it (and only it) at night.
What I will be doing:
Trying to film the experience and take photos. This is not easy when trying to actively hunt. Especially witty Blacktail deer in dense forests with sub-par camera equipment.
Depending on my energy, I may also try and film bodyweight exercise videos for the MDA video contest.
I haven’t decided if I’m going to camp overnight yet. This will depend on how many miles from home I am, if I find a good site and/or my energy levels. I will not be hauling around camping gear or a sleeping bag.
Gear:
Water
Knife
Rope
Compass
Matches
Cell phone for Tweeting
Camera, video camera, tripod
.50 caliber Muzzle Loading Black Powder rifle (old school guns)

Just wanted to say HI. I found your blog a few days ago on Technorati and have been reading it over the past few days.

Sounds like an awesome personal challenge. Could be a nice follow-up piece to “into the wild”;)
Will follow closely on twitter now and best of luck!

Well, Good luck! My father loves to hunt. I joined him one time and I never do it again because it was really tiring. So good luck!:)

I never went hunting. I couldn’t kill an animal. I love fishing though.
