Grok the Caveman Chronicles of a Modern Caveman

Going Vegetarian?!!

Yep, your heard it! Vegetarian for the rest of April. I’ve been dairy free for a few weeks now. As much as I hate to admit it, I have seen a big difference in my joint inflammation level.

Skid lid and heart rate info can be found on my triathlon gear page.

P.S. Need to lay off the salt, looking a little bloated. Ha-ha

I think being dairy free is a good idea and should help you slim down and deal with inflammation (unless you have access to raw milk). I don’t think you’ll see the same benefit with going meat-free. I tried that and it had the opposite effect for inflammation.

The meat you eat now, is it pastured/grass-fed? Grass-fed beef actually has anti-inflammatory components including a better Omega-3 to 6 ratio. Might be better to change the meat rather than give it up completely. That being said, I don’t think a few weeks of being vegetarian would be harmful in any way.

I only do raw, unless it’s fermented… then I allow some pasteurized cheese & full fat plain yogurt. The milk I get is usually Goat from a local farm also. My main source of dairy for a while has mainly been whey & butter. I try to get decent quality versions of both.

I pretty much kill a good % of the meat I eat right now. If I don’t kill it, I make sure it’s very lean!

Say it isn’t so! This is a late April Fool’s joke right? :)

The whole n=1 experiment is always good. I’d be shocked if you remained vegetarian for any extended period of time, and maybe you will be able to experiment and find other possible sources of inflammation too.

Me too ;) Probably end up chewing my own arms off. My inflammation these days is due to the huge volume of exercise, Period.

Another suggestion from me would be to cut down PUFAs as much as possible. Dunno if you got much of it before, but for some peeps I know this has helped a whole lot to cut down inflammation.

My PUFA consumption is very low. Almost all my cooking is butter & coconut. I’m also really low on nuts these days, until maybe this experiment.

Was just reading about Cerutty’s training methods and the fact that he became a vegetarian caught my eye. I guess that puts you in good company for the next month.
