Going Veg Part 2

Sorry this video really sucks. Camera settings got all goofed up some how. Maybe my brain is deteriorating already? I’ve actually been Veg for two days now. The only reason Monday is the official start, is because I will be eating animal protein this weekend the night before my race. I’d actually say I’ll be vegan, but some of my glucosamine/chondroitin supps are from animals.

Please leave me with paleo/vegetarian friendly protein source ideas below.

    Don’t forget for protein:

“3. Fuel up: eat fermented foods! These contain K2 in abundance (and fermented foods are just generally excellent for your health anyway).

Here are a few fermenty favorites:

The few legume exception I see that is probably OK to do occasionally ,

I LOVE hemp seeds! I just bought a 5 lb bag of it from Amazon. It was only $44.

Try soaked beans – I enjoy red kidney beans in small portions.

Tempeh might be good and lots of nuts. Pine nuts have 9.5 grams of protein in one serving. And, lentils are the best legumes to eat with a good amount of protein.

What about a protein supplement? Would you do whey protein? If not there are green protein supplements that provide a good amount.

    Thanks for the suggestions Todd!

I’m coming to this a little late probably, but I’ll add to my greek yogurt chia seeds which are a great source of omega-3s, vitamins, minerals, etc. Used by several ultra-runners. Also, from time to time I eat Buckwheat Groats which I enjoy. Hope this helps some.

@Chris, I eat quite a bit of chia sometimes. Rumored to be good for hydration because of how much water they’ll hold onto. Slow release I guess?

Chia gel/pudding is yummy stuff, but the ALA omega-3 in chia is not very bioavailable. I wouldn’t use them for a source of omega 3.
