Nice harvest! That should fill the icebox quite nicely. Any idea what it dressed out at? I haven’t been hunting in a few years, but made some great jerky with the whitetail I took.

Wasn’t my animal, I was just sent in to sniff it out and promised reward for doing so. No idea. A bunch of the meat isn’t going to be eatable because the guts were in too long. This one went down quickly, but all bleeding was internally which made it hard to find.
My season starts soon, so hopefully I get an animal, it drops and I can get it field dressed quickly preserving ALL the meat

Man, I should check out a video of the whole gutting process. I’ve never been hunting, or gutted an animal or anything. I had initial sort of “gross out” when I saw the guts, but I think I could handle it lol.
So if the guts are in there too long it somehow spoils all the meat? Do you know how long it was dead for? Or the time between the shooting and when you found it? How far did it travel?!? So many questions!

Guts are the easy part. It’s the smell of them that get’s most people. Me… I decided it was a good time to snack LOL. Listen to me smack away in the second video.
Key is: Listen to your instincts (ie don’t let fecal matter touch the meat).
Guts being in there keeps it all warm and insulated. The meat has very undesirable strong game/shit flavor if not dressed fairly quickly.
He was dead about 12 hours. Really didn’t run very far. Maybe 150 meters from the shot. The ground is such that there is almost no tracks and the brush was thick in spots. I also didn’t see the whole event happen, as I was brought in hours later.
