Grok the Caveman Chronicles of a Modern Caveman

Deer, Grouse & Squirrels! Oh, my!

After the squirrels bouncing off the roof had me up again at 6:45am (I know poor me right? Well I go to bed at 2am and after usually) I decided to go grouse hunting. I saw a great big grouse right off the bat, but it was way too far to get a shot. Lucky I didn’t spook it.

A little ways further up the trail I spotted a black dot (deer’s eye) between some trees and brush I stared at the dot for a moment and noticed another block dot… (the deer’s nose). The footage above is from when I had already Jockeyed into a good position so I could film here.

Next came the Squirrel….

If you follow me on Twitter, you already know how much I’ve been whining about the squirrels giving me insomnia. Well Squirrel #2 when down this week. Unfortunately it wasn’t one of my wall dwellers. I only had to take about a 6 foot shot with my .22lr pistol. I blew the right leg completly off, which is a bummer, because there is already so little meat. Anyway, here are the pictures of my squirrel dinner.

I pre-boiled the squirrel meat  for a minute this time. It made all the difference in the world flavor wise! I might have missed pulling out some scent glands or something last time too. Either way… it was really good this time. Tasted a lot like dark turkey meat! Yum-Yum

A great day and a great meal to end my 24 hour fast.
