Chronicles of a Modern Caveman

5 Easy Ways Anyone Can Start Training Like a Caveman!

Caveman Training

You might have been thinking about going primal for a while, but haven’t yet decided how to do it. What kind of workouts should you do? Where should you train? Well, it’s time you stop wondering and get started. Here are 5 ways to train like a caveman today:

Tree pull ups
You’ve probably done pull ups before, but have you tried tree pull ups? If you haven’t, let me tell you they aren’t as easy. To do them, find a tree, find a branch, pull yourself up. You’ll know you have worked out when you’re done.

Sprints
Grok didn’t run…he sprinted. Try doing sprint intervals, each sprint for 30 seconds to a minute with a minute of rest in between. After 8 of these, you’ll laugh at jogging on the treadmill.

Swim
Grok probably knew how to swim. Make sure you have a lifeguard around, and go out there and hit the water. Just make sure you can float, too.

Play!
Grok didn’t do exercise, he had fun. Learn to be a kid again. Overturn rocks, run, climb trees, have a good time. You’ll not only get in great shape but feel young again as well.

Squat
Squatting is great for your legs, and a stretch too. Chances are that Grok squatted a lot and that it wasn’t hard for him. Do squats to really get your legs going.

Sure, these may seem extremely simple, but that’s the point of going primal, isn’t it? Simplicity is key, so go out there and get fit and have fun!

My only comment would be that a true sprint could never be sustained for 60s…you can run hard for 60s but not sprint.

Inspired by Arthur De Vany, I like to mix it up. Sometimes I will walk and do random periods of hard running. Sometimes I will do all out sprints – these are brief (<10s). You know you are sprinting when your eyes are bugging out… good stimulation of fight or flight response.

I go hell bent for leather when I sprint too. 10 seconds feels like 2 minutes :)
